I. Chinese Scholars visit to Chennai

Three Chinese scholars accompanied by a brother from the Chinese scholars work visited Chennai India, on Jan 7th and 8th. Their burden was to contact college students at Chennai for the preaching of the high gospel.

As religion is a sensitive topic in India, the local brothers planned to organize technical seminars in a few campuses, and an open seminar on Science and God in IIT Chennai (top Engineering Institute at Chennai) to facilitate interaction with non-Christian students in a secular setting. The local brothers also organized two gospel forums for the saints to invite their gospel contacts. During their visit, the scholars had a chance to meet a group of Christian students at IIT Chennai. The scholars also had fellowship with campus serving ones and leading brothers.

Technical Seminars

Technical seminars were organized in three different colleges. The scholars presented their current research topic and interacted with faculty and students in these campuses. At the end of the seminar, the scholars got an opportunity to invite the students and faculty to the gospel forum and pass out invitation cards to them. At the end of the seminar the scholars were able to interact with a small group of students (saints’ contact) and share the gospel with them.

Gospel Forums

Two gospel forums were organized in the city on the topic: Has Science Buried God? Invitation cards were distributed and saints were encouraged to invite their friends for the meeting. On the first evening there was a turnout of 100 with 40 new contacts in the meeting. On the second evening in a different location there was a turnout of 40 with 14 new contacts. The gospel forums were unlike a regular Christian gospel meeting. It was organized in a question & answer format. The audience was encouraged to write down their questions and the scholars answered the relevant questions while sharing crucial points on the gospel. Topics such as “Does God exist?” “Evolution vs Creationism” “Is Jesus the only God” were addressed. 30 of the gospel contacts were open to meet again, 2 of them were baptized.

Meeting Christian Students at IIT Chennai

The scholars met with a group of Christian students at IIT Chennai. These students were gathering as a Christian prayer fellowship on campus. The scholars had a good time of fellowship with these students strengthening their faith. Topics such as God’s full salvation, God’s purpose for man, how to show their friends that the Bible was unique in answering important existential questions were fellowshipped. It was found that one of the assistant professors in the fellowship already had read some portions from the ministry and possessed the recovery version. A few of the students are open to have fellowship with the local brothers.

Q/A Forum at IIT Chennai

O
ne of the student clubs at IIT Chennai was willing to organize a seminar on “Has Science buried God?” with the scholars from the US. As this was a secular forum, we were not allowed to speak from a Christian perspective. The scholars could only speak on the topic of Science and God without mentioning “The Bible”, “The Lord Jesus” or “Christianity”. We were not expecting a big turnout, but were very surprised to see 400 people gathered for the event. All the chairs were full, many were seated on the steps of the auditorium. This topic seemed to generate a lot of interest among the students on campus. The scholars continued to conduct the event in a Q & A format. The students were very enthusiastic and interested to question and discuss these issues. Although the scholars were not able to present their faith openly, they could sow the seed of the existence of God and the human spirit into the hearers. Their handling of the hostile questions from the atheists left a good impression among the audience. They were patient and calm in speaking to those with opposing views without being rude or harsh to them. This event even strengthened our testimony among the Christian students on campus who are open to contact the local brothers.

Fellowship with Campus Serving Ones & Leading Brothers

The scholars also had some time with the saints burdened for the campus work and with the leading brothers in the church. They shared their experience in propagation, shepherding and perfecting students for the church life. They brought out the burden how the student saints on campus must be led to be active functioning members. Not just enjoying the Lord in the church meetings, but also taking up the responsibility to preach the gospel and shepherd new ones. They encouraged the leading brothers to prepare some gospel material to equip the student saints to witness to those from different religious background (Hinduism, Islam).

II. Chinese Scholars visit to Delhi

Technical Seminar at IIT-Delhi

In the morning one of the professor brothers gave a technical presentation at IIT Delhi with about 40 attendees of students and faculty at IIT-Delhi. While the content of presentation was strictly technical, invitation cards for a subsequent gospel forum on Saturday were distributed at the end and we believed useful contacts were made.

Q/A Forum at Delhi Technological University (DTU)

The brothers then quickly traveled to Delhi Technological University (DTU). A Q/A forum was held with the University’s Vice Chancellor as one of the host. The topic of the seminar was “Science, faith, and life”. In a style of dialogue with the Chancellor and Q/A with more than 80 students, the brothers discussed the limitation of science, the inherent need of faith due to human spirit, and the ultimate purpose of life. There were very lively interactions among the host, the brothers, and students. Toward the end of the forum the brothers gave a very clear speaking regarding God’s economy, the process Lord Jesus went through to become the life-giving Spirit, and our need to use our human spirit to receive Him as the life-giving Spirit. Many students expressed great interests in hearing about Christian faith.

Meeting with community contacts and professors

On Friday evening there was a home meeting with local community neighbors and professionals who have had contacts with local saints. After meal the brothers took turn to give their testimony regarding their salvation and Christian experiences. Several neighbors indicated that they were touched by the testimony of life transformation these brothers experienced, and the examples they gave in maintaining a normal Christian life in the midst of a demanding work schedule.

Q/A Forum at Delhi University Conference Center, North campus

The brothers held one Q/A forum on DU campus with a title “Science, Technology, and Progress”. The forum was carried out with a theme that science as a tool is neutral and could provide benefits to society, but the technology development is often influenced by mankind who are in nature fallen. Science could not address the issues of the meaning or the vanity of life. More than eighty students attended the forum and showed great interests in the subject. Several students (including one with Islamic faith) joined the lunch fellowship at brothers’ house near DU after the forum. Many useful contacts have been made.

Gospel Forum at South Delhi

The brothers held one gospel forum in South Delhi with a title “How to Find a Path of Life”. About 15 new ones came. In the beginning the brothers took turn to give their testimony concerning student life, application for study in US, getting PhDs and teaching positions, witnessing that our life without Jesus Christ is vanity, and our life journey with Christ is full of joy, peace, rest, and purpose. The brothers also led all the attendees to call upon the Name of the Lord and to pray to receive the Lord.
